On the 12th – 14th August, we took some children aged 14-17 years on a overnight residential trip to Kilve Court. This trip was for children living with Type 1 Diabetes, and for the first time it was children and young people from Taunton and Yeovil.
Every year the Josh Evans Trust Fund kindly support us and help to fund this trip with one aim, to get children and young people with T1D together and feeling less only with their diagnosis.
The trip was an unforgettable experience, packed with adventure, personal growth, and new friendships. From paddleboarding, abseiling, archery, and high ropes to watching the eclipse together on the beach. Every activity encouraged our young people to challenge themselves and embrace new experiences.
What was most inspiring was seeing every single young person step outside of their comfort zone and give everything a try, supporting and encouraging one another along the way. The trip also provided a valuable opportunity for young people living with Type 1 Diabetes to connect with others who share similar experiences, leading to open and honest conversations about managing T1D and the challenges it can bring. At the same time, they enjoyed simply being teenagers together, sharing stories, making memories, and building lasting friendships with people they may never have met. The confidence, resilience, and sense of belonging that developed throughout the trip made it a truly special and rewarding experience for everyone involved.
We would like to say a massive thank you to the Josh Evans Trust Fund who are the reason we are able to provide these experiences for our young people. It makes a massive difference to our young people and their families in more ways than one.
